Carers offered opportunity to learn
Carers in the Midlands are being offered a chance to learn new skills and get qualifications through a range of courses through an education project funded by the Lottery until April 2009.
The Carers into Education Project is a partnership between the National Extension College and the Princess Royal Trust for Carers offering family carers the opportunity to access NEC distance learning courses at reduced rates (carers pay 20% of the full fee). The courses include GCSEs, AS and A2s and vocational studies.
Because the NEC courses are distance learning based, there is no requirement to attend classes so carers will be able to study when and when they choose and can be fitted around their caring responsibilities. Support will be provided through a subject tutor and a personal tutor. NEC will, in addition, work closely with local carers centres, such as CLASP, to support students.
The project is only open to carers, aged 16 or over, in the East of England and the Midlands.
