Mental Health in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland

Service User and Carer Involvement

Do you, as a service user or carer, want to influence the way mental health services are run in the City of Leicester?

Do you want to join a group of supportive people to talk about your issues and get things changed?

Do you want to make your views on mental health known and have them taken seriously by the powers that be?

Then GENESIS is for you.

The Genesis Project is dedicated to work with all mental health service users (individuals and groups, as well as ward forums) and carers in the City of Leicester.  Genesis exists to support you in making your voice heard. It's a means of bringing about the changes that are needed.

Genesis has FOUR main strands to its work:

  • The Open Assembly@Genesis (a forum for service users in the City of Leicester to meet and talk about the mental health issues of the day that they think are important).
  • Ward Forums and community service user groups (with links to the Open Assembly)
  • The Carers Forum (a forum for carers in the City of Leicester to meet and talk about issues, catch up on developments, and voice opinions on mental health services)
  • The Genesis Reference Group (representatives from the Open Assembly and Carers Forum who represent users and carers in meetings and consultation processes)

Each of these groups is self-determining, although advice and support is always on hand from the Genesis Group Advocate, as well as other LAMP staff.

If you want to find out more, please call Berni Martins at LAMP on 0116 255 6286 or email her at bernimartins@lampdirect.org.uk.  Berni will be pleased to make contact with you.
