Rural Stress:
Traditionally the countryside has been seen as being a tranquil place to go to escape the “stresses of urban life”. Villages have been perceived as having the strong networks family and friends that are able to local support. The reality is, of course, very different.
Individuals living in rural areas are more prone to stress and depression than perhaps ever before; and the effects of that stress are impacting on whole families and rural communities. Moreover, the current downturn in farming, closure of local services such as the post office and banks, together with recent crises and their impact on other rural businesses, is creating enormous difficulties for many. Difficulties compounded by isolation and difficulties in accessing services.
