This guide offers key principles and resources to include services and people working with carers to be more effective in involving them within acute care. The 'Triangle of Care' is a therapeutic alliance between service user, staff member and carer that promotes safety, supports recovery and sustains well being.
The 6 key elements state that:
- Carers and their role should be identified at first contact or as soon as possible.
- Staff are 'carer aware' and trained in carer engagement strategies
- Policy and practice protocols in place for confidentiality and information sharing
- Defined posts responsible for carers are in place
