Disability Employment Advisors
Disability Employment Advisors (DEA's) work as part of regional Disability Service Teams to provide specialist support for those wishing to move into employment or retain an existing job in the event of disability by helping to draw up an Action Plan.
How can Disability Employment Advisors help?
DEA's can provide:
- Employment Assessments to agree what work or training suits you best
- Referral to Work Preparation, a programme based upon the Action Plan
- Referral, if needed, to an Occupational Psychologist for an enhanced Employment Assessment
- Job Matching and Referral Service to match jobs to skills and experience. DEA's can approach the employer on the disabled person's behalf
- Information on employers who are disability symbol users
- Referral to specialist employment service programmes - Job Introduction Scheme, Access to Work and Workstep
- Details of available training
- Details on the protection of the Disability Discrimination Act
An information pack as well as a selection of leaflets can be obtained from your local Disability Employment Advisor who can be accesed via Jobcentre Plus offices. Where possible, the correct leaflet to request has been indicated on this page.
