Carers Information Pack: Where to Get Help

This section gives a list of some local organisations and services provided to support carers. Further information about local and national services which help carers and the people they look after can be found in the LAMP Directory.

LAMP

Provides services for carers of adults with mental health problems living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. This includes individual advocacy, support groups, training and The Carers Support Programme. Produces a directory of mental health services.

Rethink

Provides services for the carers of people with severe and enduring mental health problems in Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland. Provides free education and training through the Carers Education and Training Project (CETP). Rethink also has a national advice line and a website.

Crossroads

Crossroads Caring for Carers Offers a respite service for all carers, and the Outreach Support Team provides support to carers of adults with mental health problems in the city.

CLASP – The Carers Centre

Provides advice and support for all carers living in Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Focusline

A free telephone helpline for carers and service users. This service is managed by Rethink and is open every day of the year from 5pm to 1am.

Akwaaba

Provides advice, support and advocacy for service users and carers living in Leicester City, Charnwood, Oadby and Wigston.

OCD Leicester

Provides services for people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and their carers.

HEADWAY

Provides services for people with an acquired brain injury in Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland, and their carers.

Juniper Lodge

Offers help and support to both men and women who have been raped or sexually assaulted either recently or in the past.

First Step

Provides services for adult male survivors of sexual abuse and their supporters in Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Huntingtons Disease Support Group

Tel: 0116 2849180. Provides services for anyone affected by Huntington’s Disease in Leicester and Leicestershire.

Carefree

Service provided by Barnardos for young carers aged under 18.

West Leicestershire Mind / Harborough District Mind

Services for people with mental health problems and their carers in the above areas.

ADHAR Project

For Asian people with mental health problems and their carers in East Leicester.

SAVERA

Services for Asian people with mental health problems and their carers in Leicester City.

Voluntary Action Rutland / Voluntary Action Leicester

Information and support for mental health service users and their carers living in the above areas.

Leicestershire Money Advice Centre Mental Health Project

Provides information and debt support for people with mental health problems who are in hospital or patients of a Community Mental Health Team.

African-Caribbean Support Service

Tel: 0116 254 4230. Service provided by Foundation Housing Association for adults from the African Caribbean community with mental health difficulties who live in independent accommodation.

Welfare Rights Advice Line

Telephone advice about benefits to people with a mental health problem and their carers.

Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)

Information, advice and support to resolve problems and/or queries for people in hospital and their families and friends.
