Mental Health in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland

What is a Crisis?

Sometimes your mental health may cause you to worry and you need urgent help.  You may be worried that someone else's mental health has got worse.  You may be afraid for your own or someone else's safety.  If this is the case, you should contact someone who can help you, even if it is only for support and advice. They may help to reassure you.

Tips for getting help when you are in crisis

If you are in mental health crisis you may be feeling frightened, confused or very worried.  It can be difficult to get the help you need, when you need it. It is important that you keep trying as soon as you can to make sure you do not get worse.  You may be afraid or confused or very worried.  Don't let this stop you asking for help.  The earlier you can get help, the more quickly you can begin to recover.

When you speak to someone, try to remember to:

  • keep calm
  • keep safe
  • tell them who you are
  • tell them what is wrong
  • tell them what you need
  • trust what they say to you
  • if there is a reason why you cannot follow any advice, do not be afraid to tell them why

If there is real danger, dial 999 and ask for the Police.
