Future Bright: NHS Open Art Show
On April 21, the Trust launched it’s first ever open art show. Future Bright opened at The City Gallery, Leicester, in a high profile event attended by nearly 200 people.
The exhibition was intended to show how art - creating it or viewing it, can be a great way to improve your mental health.
Work was invited and submitted by artists of all kind - from children to adults, professional to aspiring, and from those with experience of mental health problems to those just interesting in maintaining and celebrating wellbeing.
As well as showcasing talent and combating stigma, the exhibition has also been envisaged as being an opportunity for LPT to reach out the community and engage people in it's work.
Further launches are set to be held across the county, with the next one opening on May 13 at the Ten 2 Gallery in Hinckley. Each gallery show will be supported by a creative workshop. In Hinckley this will be a ceramics workshop with Ceramist Helen Nottage. The workshop will be free and has been part funded by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.
Showcase LIVE
LPT’s Creative Arts Coordinators have recently obtained substantial funding for a Live Spoken Word Showcase Event, primarily targeting young men of BME descent.
The project, which we have obtained twelve thousand pounds towards, is a partnership project between Akwaaba, BrightSparks and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. It will allow a number of identified participants to work with the professional guidance of 2 internationally acclaimed poets and a renowned creative director. The resultant showcase will be professionally produced by the internationally respected, renaissance one - a company specializing in multicultural arts. The show will be further supported by visuals and music and academically researched and evaluated.
More news to follow.
Enquiries to Lydia
Drugs Company Amnesty Project
The Psychiatric Medication Group is having an Amnesty - and they need you!
Please send whatever drug company branded materials you might have...mugs, mouse mats, post-it notes, pens etc...no questions will be asked and no blame attached..
Working in association with BrightSparks (arts in mental health group) participants will be working round the clock to rebrand said goods, turning them into jolly good works of art before releasing back into the community, totally reformed and totally rehabilitated!
As a reward for your diligence, the wealth of rebranded materials and associated writing about them will be unveiled at a great big art show, opening this Summer at Access Arts Leicester...the show will also be an opportunity for you to purchase back your items, charged up and ready to go:)
By undertaking this project we’re hoping to highlight the use of drugs company branded materials across Mental Health Services across the Trust. exploring the effects such goods might have on both workers and patients. Needless to say the project is also hoping to empower service users, develop creative skills and thinking and of course - showcase the talents of the mental health community
Please send all items to:
The Psychiatric Medication Group @ The Met Centre or drop them into any of the friendly Drugs Company Amnesty Boxes, helpfully dotted around the Trust.
‘Rebranding’ workshops will be held throughout June - enquiries to Lydia
