Consultation begins on County community health services
Leicestershire County and Rutland PCT has begun a public consultation as part of their review of community health services, including local community hospitals in Leicestershire and Rutland.
The PCT has published a Summary Consultation Document which gives details of their proposals, which include:
- More support for patients to stay in their homes for as long as possible, providing care through community nursing teams who will work with other services.
- Extended opening hours for some services.
- A wider range of care in 5 community hospitals, called 'one-stop health hubs'
- Two walk-in centres, one for North Leicestershire (already running in Loughborough) and one for South Leicestershire (a proposed 8am-8pm health centre).
- Future minor illnesses and minor injuries care offered through a range of options, including GP surgeries, pharmacies, community hospitals, walk-in centres and out-of-hours telephone service.
- More diagnostic tests at community hospitals and GP surgeries
- More outpatient clinics at community hospitals and GP surgeries
- Extended palliative care (for end of life care) in community, care settings and where possible in patients' homes.
It is intended that services will operate within a 'hub and spoke' model around five of the current community hospitals at Coalville, Hinckley, Loughborough, Market Harborough and Melton Mowbray. The consultation document sets out proposals for these localities. The consultation does not include Ashby and Lutterworth areas where further work is being carried out.
There will be a series of public information events during the consultation period for patients, public, staff and other interested parties. Click here for details of the events.
The Summary Consultation Document contains a questionnaire which can be completed by post, email or online. Details as follows:
